Which month is the best to start a vegetable gardening?

It is best to plant vegetables between April and June. This is when soil is at its warmest and plants are growing the fastest. You might want to wait until July/August if you live in a cold area.

Is there enough space in my backyard to grow a vegetable garden.

If you don’t yet have a vegetable gardening, you might wonder if it will be possible. The answer is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. It just takes some planning. For example, you could build raised beds only 6 inches high. You can also use containers as raised beds. You'll still be able to get plenty of produce in any way.

Which seeds should I start indoors and which ones should I avoid?

A tomato seed is the best seed to start indoors. Tomatoes are very easy to grow and produce fruit year-round. Plant tomatoes in pots and be careful about putting them in the ground. How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers are made from natural substances such as manure, compost, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, guano, and blood meal. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers are chemicals that are used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. However, synthetic fertilizers pose risks to human health and the environment. These fertilizers also require high amounts of energy, water and time to make. Many synthetic fertilizers are also harmful to groundwater and water surface because of runoff. This pollution can be harmful for both wildlife and humans.

There are many organic fertilizers available:

* Manure is a product of livestock eating nitrogen-rich food (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria, enzymes, and other substances that break down the waste into simple compounds which can be easily absorbed by plants.

* Compost - a mixture of decaying leaves, grass clippings, vegetable scraps, and animal manure. It is high in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as calcium, magnesium, sulfur. It is extremely porous and holds water well.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It works similarly to soap in that it dissolves oils and fats. It also contains trace elements, phosphorous and nitrogen.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano is the excrement of seabirds and bats. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal, the remains from slaughtered animals. It contains protein, which makes it useful for feeding poultry and other animals. It also has trace minerals such as phosphorous, potassium, nitrogen and other nutrients.

For organic fertilizer mix equal amounts of manure, compost and/or fishemulsion. Mix well. If you don't have all three ingredients, you can substitute them one for another. You can mix one part of the fish emulsion with two portions of compost if you don't have enough.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. To see signs of new growth, you'll need more fertilizer each two weeks.
