FAQ

Which seeds should I start indoors and which ones should I avoid?

A tomato seed is the best seed to start indoors. Tomatoes produce year-round fruit and are easy to plant. When growing tomatoes in pots, be careful when transplanting them into the ground. If you plant too early, the soil may dry out, which could cause the roots to rot. Plant diseases like bacterial disease can quickly kill plants.

Can I grow fruit trees inside pots?

Yes! If space is limited, you can grow fruit trees in pots. Ensure your pot has drainage holes so excess moisture won't rot the tree. Also, ensure the pot is deep enough to hold the root ball. This will help prevent stress on the tree.

Do I have enough space to plant a vegetable or fruit garden in my backyard?

If you don't already have a vegetable garden, you might wonder whether you'll have enough room for one. Yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. It takes just a little planning. For instance, raised beds could be constructed only 6 inches high. You can also use containers as raised beds. You will still get plenty of produce regardless of how you do it.

How To

Organic fertilizers to be used in the garden

Organic fertilizers are made with natural substances like compost, manure, seaweed extract and blood meal. Organic fertilizers are made from non-synthetic materials. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This pollution can be harmful for both wildlife and humans.

There are many organic fertilizers available:

* Manure is created when livestock eat foods containing nitrogen (a nutrient for plants). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is rich with nitrogen, phosphorus. potassium, calcium. magnesium. sulfur. iron. copper. manganese. molybdenum. chlorine. and carbon. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion is a liquid product made from fish oil. It can dissolve oils and fats, similar to soap. It has trace elements such as phosphorous, nitrogen and nitrate.

* Seaweed extract - A concentrated solution of minerals from kelp and red algae. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano is excrement from amphibians, seabirds, bats and reptiles. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as sodium, magnesium, sulfate and chloride.

* Blood Meal: The remains of animal carcasses. It is rich in protein which is useful for feeding birds and other animals. It also contains trace minerals, phosphorus and potassium.

Mix equal amounts of compost, manure, and/or fish oil to make organic fertilizer. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t have access, you can mix one ingredient with the other. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

Spread the fertilizer evenly on the soil with a shovel, or tiller. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. You'll need to add fertilizer every two weeks until new growth appears.
